Diabetic Eye Exams
in Saskatoon

Even if your vision feels stable, an annual diabetic eye exam
helps us look for subtle changes that may not be obvious day to day.

WE TAILOR YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your Eyes Can Tell Us a Lot About Your Health

Diabetes can affect the tiny blood vessels inside your eyes, sometimes before you notice any changes in your vision. That’s why regular diabetic eye exams are such an important part of protecting your long-term eye health.

At Vista Eyecare, we use advanced diagnostic imaging, careful monitoring, and a personalized approach to help detect changes early and keep your care connected to your overall health.

If you have diabetes, annual eye exams are covered through Saskatchewan Health, making it easier to stay on top of your eye health.

Eye Conditions Linked to Diabetes

Fluctuating Vision

Changes in blood sugar can temporarily affect the shape and focusing ability of the lens inside your eye. This can cause your vision to shift throughout the day or make your glasses prescription feel inconsistent.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar damages the small blood vessels in the retina. These vessels can leak, bleed, or grow abnormally, which may affect vision if not monitored and treated early.

Diabetic Macular Edema

The macula is the central part of the retina that helps you see fine details, read, recognize faces, and drive. Diabetic macular edema happens when fluid builds up in this area, which can cause blurred or distorted central vision.

Glaucoma

People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing glaucoma. Glaucoma occurs when the pressure in your eye builds up and causes damage to the optic nerve. This often occurs without early symptoms, which is why pressure checks and optic nerve monitoring are important parts of your exam.

Cataracts

Cataracts occur when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. Diabetes can increase the risk of developing cataracts earlier. Cataracts may cause blurry vision, glare, or difficulty seeing clearly at night.

Protect Your Vision with Regular Diabetic Eye Care

If you have diabetes, yearly eye exams are an important part of your overall health care. We’ll help monitor your eyes over time, explain what we see, and guide you through any next steps if changes are detected.
