FREEDOM WITH VISTA

Getting Contact Lenses

Before getting started with contact lenses, there are a few important things we need to evaluate. Our contact lens exam and fitting process is designed to ensure lenses are safe, comfortable, and well-suited to your eyes and your lifestyle.

Whether the appointment is for you or your child, here’s what you can expect:

Start With an Eye Exam

We begin every contact lens appointment with a comprehensive eye exam. This helps us determine your prescription and assess your overall eye health.

Most people can wear contact lenses successfully, but certain factors can affect how well they work for you, including:

  • Dry eyes
  • Eye health conditions
  • History of eye infections
  • Your daily environment and screen use

If contact lenses are a good option for you, we’ll make sure we find you the right pair.

Find the Right Fit

A proper fit is key to both comfort and long-term eye health. We take detailed measurements of your eyes, including shape, size, and tear film quality, to determine which lenses will work best for you.

Contact lenses are not one-size-fits-all. Even small differences in fit can affect comfort, vision, and eye health, which is why we take the time to customize your lenses carefully.

If you’ve had trouble wearing contacts in the past, there may still be options worth exploring.

Try Them With Support

Once we’ve selected your lenses, you’ll have the opportunity to try them on and get used to how they feel.

We’ll guide you through insertion and removal, answer your questions, and make sure you feel confident before you leave. A short trial period allows us to fine-tune the fit and make any adjustments needed to give you the best experience.

If something doesn’t feel right, we want to hear about it so we can work with you to get it right.

LEARN

Specialty Contact Lenses

Not all contact lenses are the same. For some eyes, a more customized approach can make all the difference.

Specialty lenses can improve comfort, clarity, and stability for patients with unique vision needs or eye conditions.

RGP (Rigid Gas-Permeable) Lenses

Rigid gas-permeable lenses offer crisp, stable vision and are especially helpful for correcting astigmatism or more complex prescriptions.

They can take a little time to adjust to, but many patients find the clarity and durability well worth it. If soft lenses haven’t given you the vision you’re looking for, RGP lenses may be a great option.

Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are designed for patients who need a more customized fit, including those with irregular corneas or conditions like keratoconus.

These lenses rest on the white part of the eye and create a smooth optical surface over the cornea. They also hold a layer of moisture, which can significantly improve comfort and vision for patients with dry eyes.

For some patients, scleral lenses aren’t just about clearer vision, they can be a meaningful solution for ongoing dryness and irritation when other options haven’t worked.

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable and stable they feel once properly fitted.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the front surface of the eye while you sleep, allowing you to see clearly during the day without glasses or contact lenses.

They can be a great option for both adults and children, especially for those who want daytime freedom from lenses or are involved in sports and active lifestyles.

Ortho-K is also commonly used as part of a myopia management plan to help slow the progression of nearsightedness in children.

We’ll assess whether Ortho-K is a good fit for your eyes and walk you through what to expect from the process.

Myopia Management Lenses

If your child has myopia, we may recommend contact lenses designed to help slow its progression over time.

These lenses use specialized optics to manage how light focuses on the eye, helping to reduce how quickly nearsightedness worsens while still providing clear vision.

We use evidence-based options such as MiSight® 1 day, Abiliti™, and NaturalVue® lenses, along with other designs depending on your child’s eyes and lifestyle.

We’ll walk you through the options and help you decide what feels right for your child and your family.

Contact Lens Options

We work with a range of trusted contact lens brands and lens designs so we can recommend options based on your eyes, comfort, and lifestyle.

Depending on your needs, we may suggest:

  • Daily disposable lenses
  • Reusable lenses (weekly, biweekly, or monthly)
  • Lenses for astigmatism
  • Multifocal lenses
  • Myopia management lenses
  • Specialty lenses for more complex fittings

Our goal is to help you find lenses that feel natural, comfortable, and easy to wear.

VISTA EYECARE

Contact Lens Recycling

Did you know that over 290 million contact lenses end up in Canadian landfills and waterways every year? Small changes can make a meaningful difference. Vista Eyecare is proud to offer contact lens recycling at our clinic, making it easy to responsibly dispose of used lenses and packaging.

You can drop off any brand of used contact lenses, blister packs, and foil packaging. We’ll send them to TerraCycle, where they’re processed into materials that can be reused in new products.

Please make sure lenses and packaging are dry before bringing them in.

Finding What Works for You

Whether you’re considering contact lenses for the first time or exploring a different option, we’ll guide you through what makes the most sense for your eyes and your day-to-day life.

Our goal is to help you find a solution that feels comfortable, natural, and easy to wear.
