At Vista Eyecare, your eye exam is designed around you. It’s about more than checking your prescription. It’s a chance to understand your vision, your lifestyle, your concerns, and your long-term eye health, which all play a role in how we approach your care.

We use advanced diagnostic equipment alongside a thoughtful, personalized process to help detect changes early, monitor your eye health over time, and recommend solutions that truly feel right for you.

Whether you are coming in for a routine exam, noticing a change in your vision, have questions about your eye health, or simply due for a check-in, our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and confident in your care.

HOW TO KNOW

When to Visit Vista Eyecare

Regular eye exams play an important role in protecting both your vision and your overall eye health. Many eye conditions can develop gradually, often without noticeable symptoms in the early stages, which is why routine exams are so important.

The Canadian Associate of Optometrists general guideline for adult and senior eye exams:

Ages
20-39
Every 2-3 years
Ages
40-64
Every 2 years
Ages
65+
Once every year

Your eyes and your health are unique. Depending on your medical history, medications, lifestyle, or any changes in your vision, your optometrist may recommend a different schedule that’s right for you.

What We Look For

During a comprehensive eye exam, we look closely at both your vision and the health of your eyes. This helps us detect early signs of eye disease, monitor changes, and support your long-term vision.

We commonly assess for:

Glaucoma
Cataracts
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Retinal tears or detachments
Diabetic eye changes
Dry eye disease
 Digital eye strain
Prescription changes
Binocular vision or focusing concerns

Our Comprehensive Process

When you visit Vista Eyecare, our team will guide you through each step of your exam. The exact testing may vary depending on your age, symptoms, health history, and the reason for your visit.

Case History

Your doctor will review your vision concerns, health history, medications, family history, lifestyle, and any symptoms you may be experiencing.

This helps us understand the full picture and tailor your exam to your needs.

Visual Acuity Testing

This is the familiar part of the exam where you read letters on a screen or chart.

It helps us understand how well you are seeing with your current glasses or contact lenses and whether your prescription may need to be updated.

Visual Field Screening

Your peripheral vision can provide important clues about your eye health. Visual field screening helps us look for areas of reduced side vision, which can be associated with conditions such as glaucoma. This test is non-invasive and gives your doctor another way to assess how your visual system is functioning.

Digital Retinal Imaging

We use Optomap digital retinal imaging to take detailed images of the back of your eye. These images help us assess the retina, optic nerve, blood vessels, and other important structures inside the eye. Retinal imaging allows us to detect changes early and compare your eye health from year to year.

Refraction

During refraction we carefully refine your prescription, check your focusing system, and make sure we are getting you the clearest, most comfortable vision. This helps us find the perfect prescription for you and your needs.

Ocular Health Exam

Your ocular health exam is one of the most important parts of your visit. Your doctor will carefully assess the inside and outside of your eyes to look for signs of current or developing eye health concerns. Our goal is to help protect your vision, support your eye health, and make sure you feel confident about your care.

Personalized Lens Consultation

Once we’ve determined your prescription, our knowledgeable staff take the time to guide you through your lens options in a clear and approachable way. We consider how you use your vision day to day, whether that’s working on screens, driving, reading, or being on the go, so your lenses feel natural, comfortable, and easy to wear. It’s all part of making sure your glasses don’t just match your prescription, but truly support your lifestyle.
